Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underscored that the right of citizens to express their aspirations is a constitutional guarantee that must be respected and facilitated by the state.

In an official statement at the State Palace on Sunday (Aug. 31), Prabowo called on the House of Representatives (DPR RI) to immediately invite community leaders, student representatives, and other groups wishing to voice their concerns for a direct dialogue.

“I will ask the leadership of the DPR to promptly invite community figures, student representatives, and groups that wish to convey their aspirations, so they can be welcomed properly and engaged in direct dialogue,” Prabowo said firmly.

The president stressed that such aspirations must be expressed peacefully. At the same time, he warned that acts of anarchy, attempts to destabilize the state, vandalism of public facilities, looting, and threats to public safety cannot be tolerated and constitute violations of the law.

“Law enforcement officers must protect the public, safeguard public facilities built with taxpayer money, and uphold the law against any violations that endanger society at large,” he emphasized.

Prabowo also noted that the DPR had agreed to revoke a number of policies, including the additional allowances for legislators and the moratorium on overseas working visits. Other matters, he said, would be addressed through formal parliamentary mechanisms.

The president further instructed all ministries and government institutions to remain open to criticism and input from the public.

“To the government, I instruct all ministries and agencies to receive delegations from groups wishing to deliver criticism, corrections, and suggestions for the improvement of governance,” Prabowo stated.

In addition, Prabowo disclosed that parliamentary leaders and political party executives had taken firm action against several members who had made statements fueling public unrest. Their party memberships, along with their status as members of the DPR, were revoked effective September 1, 2025.
